Romance is a vital ingredient for keeping a marriage alive. Without it, a husband and wife can become roommate–two people simply living and existing within the same household.
By God’s design, marriage was meant to be much more than this. Proverbs 5:19 says, “A loving doe, a graceful deer, may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.” All throughout Scripture, especially in Song of Solomon, there are verses that show us how much God wants us to enjoy an abundant “sexual life” with our mate.
There are a lot of things a couple can do to keep romance alive in their marriage. For a woman, romance is often nurtured outside of the bedroom. A wife needs to feel loved and cared for in order for her to desire to be sexual with her husband. Taking the time to communicate these needs with each other will help a husband understand what he can do for his wife in order to enhance their sexual relationship.
Two books that you and your spouse may find helpful are written by a husband-and-wife couple. There is one called Romancing Your Wife: A Little Effort Can Spice Up Your Marriage by Debra White Smith and Daniel W. Smith. Then there is Romancing Your Husband: Enjoying a Passionate Life Together.
The following video clip has some great suggestions for helping a couple develop some strategies and ideas for building romance. Just like all other living things, a marriage and its sexual relationship must be nurtured or it will die.
We hope you enjoy this clip and you gain some great insight and ideas from it. And who knows, you may even want to take notes.
