Lovemaking and Body Image (Week 8)

in An Invitation to Intimacy

when i dont want to do it Lovemaking and Body Image (Week 8)This week we started off talking about the “Attitude” activity. that was in the Student Workbook. Different comments were made about how they enjoyed putting down ways that they could see themselves changing and growing in their sexual relationship with their husband.

Following this time, I played the CD from the Intimate Issues’ Conference called, “What Do I Do When I Don’t Want to Do It?” Linda Dillow does most of this presentation, sharing how I Corinthians 7 is intended to instruct us in how we are supposed to give our bodies to each other on our wedding night. She describes this as being like a “gift exchange.” It lasted about 40 minutes.

Following some other comments about what we thought about the CD and how we might say “no” under certain conditions, I presented each lady with a shocking pink pull bow. They are 8″ wide and can be purchased through different vendors online for not much money. I actually found a terrific deal through eBay.

The ladies’ comments were funny when I gave them the bows and we had some good laughs about the possibilities. While no one is required to use them, I think there will be some fun, even moving moments for these ladies whenever they share these with their husband.

One comment that was made concerned making love during her period. At this point, I shared with them about a new product on the market I had heard about called Instead. This type of feminine protection makes it possible to wear the ring for 12 hours, and a woman can even have intercourse while wearing it. It isn’t very expensive. I’ve found it at Kroger, Publix, and WalMart. Be sure to check out their website.

Finally, we began a brief discussion about body image as I read from Dr. Deborah Newman’s book, Loving Your Body. Dr. Newman has an intriguing mental exercise on imagining what life would be like if we all looked like Barbie and Ken dolls. It led to some good conversations to help us start thinking about this important area in a woman’s life.

Next week should prove to be interesting as we share about how Satan has tainted and skewed our own views, attitudes, and actions concerning our body image and how it directly affects our sexual relationship.
